bye!

So... I've decided, with the business starting to take off and with my increased workload (yeah!!) that I simply do not have the time to keep two blogs up and running (heck, I'm not even very good at one!) so I've decided to stop blogging on still... {life} and instead, just update over here...
{ just click on the picture to be magically transported to my new on-line home! }
Thankyou so much for stopping by! See you over at the other blog!!

experimental monday...

So, it used to be called 'experimental tuesday', the day in the week when I would experiment in the kitchen, throwing a bit of this and a bit of that into the mix and creating culinary delights for our willing 'test subjects' The Missionaries! (I actually cook like that usually but I thought I'd make it a bit of a weekly feature! Missionary Night = Experiment Night) And if the experiment turns out good, well then I'll keep making it and 'wow' my mother and mother-in-law with my serious skills in the kitchen if it turns out bad... well, we just hope that the blessing on the food is sufficent to keep us all alive!

As it happens, we've been super busy lately and have had to change it to experimental monday, which is where we find ourselves now...

Tonight's special was Spanish Chicken with Garlic Roasted Potatoes and CousCous (A grand total of £6.49... that's for all six of us + two boxes of apple juice!! I {heart} aldi!!)

And if THAT wasn't fun enough, I decided to introduce a 'rating system' where my little 'guinea-pigs' could let me know how well I was doing (I promised not to hurt them if they gave me a low score... though I doubt any of them believed me!!)

left to right: Shaun, Chantelle, GORGEOUS HUSBAND!!, Elder Fife, Elder Blanchard

And here are my scores... on green pigs!

Just in case you can't see them, my scores were:

  • a 10 from Shaun (he likes olives!)
  • a 9 from Chantelle
  • an 8 from Dominic (he's the Simon Cowell of the judges!!)
  • a 9.5 from Elder Fife (that's because I'm taller than him and I think he's scared of me)
  • a 9 from Elder Blanchard

Hurrah! Looks like I did pretty good! Dominic informs me that's an average score of 9.1, why that's almost perfection!

So, no one complained, we didn't die... I think I'll be making this one again sometime, I should probably go write it down...

hello summer...

Here are some things that made me smile today...

And here is where I sat this morning going over some paperwork and working on some sketches for new designs etc.

It's mess... I know! I have given up hope of ever becoming an organised, tidy person!

I love this part of what I do - I get so excited when a new concept starts to form in my head and it feels liberating to be able to put it down on paper and see it begin to take shape! I am feeling very inspired today...

oops, I did it again...

…I fell off the blogging wagon! It’s been almost 2 weeks since my last post and I apologise!

Do you ever get those days when you have so much going on in your life that you feel… ‘full up’?! I do. My mind gets filled with all the things I have to do, all the ‘stuff’ I have to remember, or say, or make, or decide and before you know it, the only thing I’m actually good for is crawling back under the duvet, mumbling something along the lines of ‘…and I don’t see why I shouldn’t be allowed to hibernate…’
Well, I have been having ‘one of those days’ for the past few weeks – completely overwhelmed with everything in my head and I just need to sit down and throw all my ideas onto paper, or the computer… or both!

My problem is that I am so afraid of making the wrong decision that I rarely ever make any decision at all – it’s true, ask Dominic! (He gets so frustrated whenever we go out to the cinema or for take-away. I take sooo long to make the simplest of decisions.)

Over the past few weeks I’ve been having this inner battle about a few things to do with my work. As many of you know I currently in the middle of setting up a stationary design business. After a few knocks in the craft industry I decided that I should go into business myself and do the things I love!

I went along to a workshop organised by Goodwin Development Trust and sponsored by Viking FM – it was a two day workshop all about how to set up your own business! It was so great and at the end was a ‘dragons den’-style competition where you had to pitch your business idea to a panel of judges to win a business start-up package that included a laptop, money to help you start up, stationary (business cards etc), a website bought and designed for you, and a few other great things.

I took a few stationary samples in that I’d designed, including our own wedding invitation. I learned how to work PowerPoint in about 2 hours and then I pitched my wedding stationary idea to the panel! And guess what… I won!! It was such a huge blessing and I am so grateful for an opportunity to have professionals helping me every step of the way! (no jokes about me having professional help thankyouverymuch!) I’m working with some fantastic people: Gemma Potts at Goodwin, and Gary at Viking (he’s their web designer)!

And so that’s what I’ve been up to for the last couple of months - worrying about logo’s, business names, going back and forth changing my mind and feeling waaaaay out of my depth!

And trying to focus on just that – the stationary business! And yet for some reason, I just can’t help myself… I grab my camera and I go out and I take pictures and I love love love looking at the world through the lens of that thing! I love capturing moments of people’s lives and for some reason people keep asking me to do it. And I have been so confused because I’m passionate about photography and I’m passionate at stationary design and I’m good at both of them and … well…how do I choose?!

What if I make the wrong choice?!t

And then, just the other day, it hit me… why choose?! Who says I have to do one or the other?! If these are my talents, if these are things I love doing and am passionate about (and I think we have established that they are!) then why not do both?!

Oh… that’s an easier choice to make. Ok. I’ll do both!

And you know what – I haven’t felt this ‘at peace’ for what seems like a long time!
It’s a peace that comes from being true to yourself, and making a decision that’s right… for you! (or for me I should say!)

So in between working on the website and the logos and the designs for the stationary side of things, I have also been working on another blog…
www.jobarberphotography.blogspot.com

I’ll still be updating this one…haha! If you can call it that! What I should say is that I will be trying a bit harder to update this one!
But the new blog is where I’ll post pictures from every session I photograph and where you can contact me if you’re interested in hiring me for a shoot!

Now that’s taken care of, the only thing left to do is to decide on one of these…

Let me know what you think! I'd love some feedback!

my sister mary...

... should be a model!
Dominic and I went up to Bridlington a couple of weeks ago to get some shots on the beach. I miss the beach so much! I really took it for granted when I lived there, and though we're not far from Bridlington (about 30 miles) we don't get up there as much as we should!
So, I took some shots of Mary, Kirsty and their friend Stacey (please note: all three were on a sugar-rush - it was like trying to get pics of dragonflies - they just wouldn't stay still! haha!)
but here are some of my favourites...

Don't ask why me why some have borders round them and some don't - it'd just one of those mysteries of the universe I guess! - Ok, I'm having problems with either blogger or the internet... possibly even both! So I'm going to have to post the rest of my favourites another time.
Also, Kirsty's pics aren't on here - I'm saving them for next week where she can have a post all to herself... because next week my baby sister is turning 18! awww!! So... keep a look out for those!

Till next time!
